Latvian rally driver Martins Sesks has openly admitted that he must evaluate the future direction of his professional career following a heavily disrupted 2026 World Rally Championship campaign. Despite consistently showing flashes of elite pace that matched the category's leading drivers, a relentless wave of technical setbacks and bad luck severely derailed his results.
Throughout the season, Martins Sesks suffered damaging punctures in Sweden, Portugal, Greece, and Sardinia, severely hampering his championship ambitions. "It was a troubled season. We didn’t have a single rally without an issue, so that is what we got this year," the 27-year-old reflected on his frustrating run of events across multiple terrains.
A strong performance at Rally Finland offered a clear glimpse of his true potential when he climbed as high as fifth overall, only for a high-speed accident on Saturday's Leustu stage to dash his hopes of a breakthrough result. Power-steering failures compounded his puncture woes during his final appearance of the season in Sardinia.

Partnered with co-driver Renars Francis, the Latvian pairing ultimately managed points-scoring finishes in just three rallies, ending the year 16th in the WRC drivers' standings. "But again, we showed some good stage times, top-three times and so on, but in the end it didn’t really go anywhere. I’m not sure how to rate my season," he noted regarding his fragmented campaign.
With uncertainty looming over his programme ahead of future championships, Martins Sesks emphasized that part-time entries in top-tier machinery are no longer sustainable for his career progression. "I think it is also a question that, after these two and a half years, if part-time offers are all we can get, then I probably need to do something else," he concluded.
