Martin Wins Silverstone Sprint, Ogura Under Pressure in Title Fight

Jorge Martin is back on the winning track. The Aprilia rider led from lights to flag to clinch victory in the 2026 British MotoGP Sprint race at Silverstone on Saturday (8/8/2026). The win also extended his championship lead over closest rival Ai Ogura to 14 points.

Starting from pole position, Martin immediately pulled away from Ogura and Fabio Di Giannantonio. With Aprilia's latest aero package, he was flawless throughout the ten-lap contest. This is his first Sprint win since Le Mans, and a clear signal that Martin is serious about defending his title.

Behind Martin, Ogura tried to stay close but never really threatened. Martin's factory team-mate Marco Bezzecchi delivered an impressive performance in his first race after collarbone and knee surgery. Bezzecchi claimed the podium by beating the Ducati duo of Marc Marquez and Di Giannantonio. This was the first-ever all-RS-GP podium in a Sprint race.

Marc Marquez struggled in the closing laps. The defending champion, who started from sixth, lost rear grip. He was overtaken by Pedro Acosta, Joan Mir, and finally Franco Morbidelli, settling for ninth place. Meanwhile, his brother Alex Marquez moved up to fourth after passing Di Giannantonio.

Incidents marked the race. Raul Fernandez, who started from second, crashed early and failed to finish. Cal Crutchlow also crashed on the opening lap but rejoined before pitting. An incident between Iker Lecuona and Morbidelli on the first lap was investigated by the stewards, but no penalty was given.
