Martin Snatches Pole for Austrian MotoGP, Acosta Third

Jorge Martin claimed a stunning pole position for the Austrian MotoGP at the Red Bull Ring on Saturday morning, edging out Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta by a mere 0.071 seconds. The Aprilia rider mastered the tight qualifying session, while Acosta had to settle for third on KTM's home turf.

The day began with a damp FP2 that seemed inconsequential, but Marc Marquez, who ventured out late, briefly topped the times before crashing at Turn 1. Ducati confirmed no significant damage to his primary bike, and the track dried for Q1. In Q1, Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) advanced with identical lap times, a rare occurrence highlighting the fierce competition. Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Aprilia) missed out and will start 13th.

In Q2, Acosta initially led, but Martin seized control with a blistering first lap. The 2024 world champion kept improving, while Acosta couldn't match his pace. Marquez slotted into second before running wide, ending his challenge. Martin's time stood firm, securing pole.

Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) finished fourth, two and a half tenths adrift, with Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Aprilia) fifth and Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati) sixth. The result dashed Acosta's hopes of a home victory but proved Aprilia's competitiveness at the Austrian circuit.
