Marquez and Title Contenders Ready for Silverstone Action, Jorge Martin Leads by 14 Points

Silverstone is once again the hot stage for the 2026 MotoGP title fight. After a four-week summer break, five riders arrive within 24 points of the championship lead—all ready to battle at the legendary British circuit. One of the most watched is Jorge Martin, who leads the championship by 14 points over Ai Ogura.

Jorge Martin has never won at Silverstone, but his best result in Britain came in 2024 when he finished second, laying the foundation for his world title. "It's crazy to be leading the championship," he said yesterday. However, he knows the pressure will come from the hungry chasers.

On the other hand, Marc Marquez arrives as the 2014 Silverstone winner and currently sits third in the standings, 18 points behind. His right shoulder, injured at Mandalika last year, remains a concern. "It's working in a different way now," Marquez admitted, having undergone surgery a few months ago. Even so, he remains a serious threat on this fast-flowing track.

Another rider to watch is Marco Bezzecchi, last year's Silverstone winner with Aprilia. However, he downplayed his chances: "I'm not sure I can win this weekend." His poor record—no Sunday race finish since winning in Italy—makes him unpredictable. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez was fastest in last year's practice sessions, though he didn't win the race. He joked about avoiding becoming the 13th different winner at Silverstone.

Ai Ogura, who crashed heavily at Turn 2 in FP2 last year and missed Aragon, now arrives in top form. Two top-two finishes in the last three races, including his first MotoGP win at Assen, boost his confidence. "It's a different moment from last year," he said.

Fabio Di Giannantonio completes the five candidates within 24 points. He has never podiumed at Silverstone and hasn't since winning in Catalunya, despite two sprint podiums. His physical condition is doubtful after two crashes at the German GP, and he admitted it's "a little bit more serious than expected."

With five riders pushing each other, Friday practice will be the early indicator of who dares to take the initiative. The fast and demanding Silverstone circuit will soon have its say.
