Marco Bezzecchi has issued his first public message after suffering a high-speed crash during the 2026 Dutch MotoGP at Assen. The accident not only ended his race on lap two but also cost the Aprilia Racing rider the championship lead to team-mate Jorge Martin.
Bezzecchi lost control while running fourth through the 200 km/h Turn 15 left-hander before cartwheeling across the gravel trap and coming to rest near the barriers. Medical staff treated him trackside before transferring him to the circuit medical centre.
Due to severe pain caused by the high-energy impact, Bezzecchi was later taken to hospital for further examinations, including CT scans and radiological checks. Fortunately, no injuries were detected, allowing the Italian rider to be discharged and return home on Sunday evening.

On Monday, Bezzecchi posted a short message on social media to update fans on his condition and thank them for their support.
"That was a rough one yesterday... time to nurse the aches and pains. No giving up! Thanks everyone for the support," Bezzecchi wrote.
While Bezzecchi was forced to retire, Aprilia still celebrated a dominant result as Ai Ogura claimed his maiden MotoGP victory ahead of Raul Fernandez and Martin, completing an all-Aprilia podium sweep.
Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola admitted it was disappointing to lose Bezzecchi after the Italian had shown outstanding pace throughout the weekend. However, Rivola stressed that the team's immediate priority is ensuring Bezzecchi makes a full recovery before returning at the German MotoGP at Sachsenring.
The Assen retirement, combined with his Brno Sprint crash and suspension from the previous grand prix, means Bezzecchi has collected only six points across the last four races. He now trails Martin by seven points heading into Sachsenring, the final round before MotoGP's summer break.
