A thrilling qualifying session at the Lusail International Circuit delivered an intense battle for the front row grid positions. Marco Bezzecchi brilliantly secured pole position for the 2026 Qatar MotoGP after setting a stunning new lap record. The Italian rider managed to shatter the early dominance shown by his main rivals on the desert track, highlighting the exceptional potential of the Aprilia RS-GP26 machinery throughout the weekend.

The fight for the premier grid spot heated up immediately when Marc Marquez became the first rider to break Fabio Di Giannantonio's Friday benchmark. However, a rapid response from Bezzecchi on his final run rocketed him to the top of the timesheets. Fabio Di Giannantonio rounded out the front row in third place, while Raul Fernandez and Francesco Bagnaia slotted into fourth and fifth respectively to prepare for the upcoming sprint race.

On the other hand, a frustrating session befell Bezzecchi's teammate and closest title rival, Jorge Martin. The Spanish contender could only manage eleventh on the grid after encountering traffic on track. Martin waved his hands in exasperation after feeling he was held up by Pedro Acosta's KTM, making his charge through the field during the races much more challenging.

Meanwhile, the midfield battles delivered plenty of drama. Pedro Acosta maintained his flawless record of never being outqualified by a teammate by securing a Q2 berth and taking eighth on the grid. Further down the order, HRC stand-in Jake Dixon will start his first premier class race since 2021 from seventeenth place, outqualifying Tech3 rider Maverick Vinales.

With the grid now set following an action-packed Saturday, attention shifts entirely to the 11-lap Qatar Sprint. Tyre strategy regarding the soft rear compound will undoubtedly dictate the pace as the championship contenders fight for crucial early points under the Lusail floodlights.
