MotoGP has officially confirmed that the Malaysian Grand Prix will remain on the FIM World Championship calendar through the 2031 season following the approval of a new long-term agreement by the Malaysian Government.
Under the new contract, the Petronas Sepang International Circuit will continue hosting MotoGP from 2027 to 2031. Malaysia has been part of the premier-class calendar since 1991, while Sepang has served as the event's home since 1999, becoming one of the championship's most iconic venues in Asia.

Malaysia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, described the extension as a strategic investment that goes beyond motorsport by strengthening tourism, economic growth, local talent development, and Malaysia's global sporting profile.

"This extension is more than just securing Malaysia's place on the global MotoGP calendar. It reflects our commitment to strengthening Malaysia's position as a leading motorsport destination while creating opportunities through economic growth, talent development, and industry expansion," said Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari in an official statement published by MotoGP.com.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports, also highlighted Malaysia's importance to the championship, citing its passionate fanbase, growing economic impact, and the strategic value of Sepang's location near Kuala Lumpur.
"Malaysia is a key market for MotoGP, where we have a strong fan base and have seen the positive economic impact of MotoGP grow year after year. Sepang is a fantastic home for our sport," Ezpeleta said in MotoGP.com's official announcement.
The Malaysian Grand Prix has become one of Southeast Asia's biggest sporting events. The 2025 edition attracted a record attendance of 190,977 spectators, underlining the race's growing popularity among domestic and international fans. MotoGP also reinforced the country's significance by staging its 2026 Season Launch in the heart of Kuala Lumpur earlier this year.
With the new agreement now in place, Malaysia's position on the MotoGP calendar is secured through 2031. Before the new contract begins in 2027, the 2026 Malaysian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place at Sepang from 30 October to 1 November.
