Heading into the Formula 1 race weekend at the Marina Bay Circuit, Liam Lawson carries immense confidence following his impressive performance in the previous round. The New Zealand driver secured a strong seventh-place finish in the Bahrain Grand Prix held at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia, having gained seven positions amidst tricky wet track conditions.
One of the most crucial moments of the race occurred right when the lights went out, as Liam Lawson unexpectedly found himself battling Max Verstappen into Turn 1. He later described the sequence as one of the best race starts of his professional career.
Speaking ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, Liam Lawson admitted he was surprised by his rapid getaway in Malaysia. According to him, avoiding wheelspin on a damp surface made all the difference while rival drivers struggled for traction off the line.

"I mean, it wasn't expected, definitely, from where I was starting. I just didn't have any wheelspin on the initial drop," Liam Lawson explained to the media.
"And I think, in the wet, that's what makes the biggest difference. If you have wheelspin, it's very hard to get going," he added regarding the race reported via Speedcafe.
Those early gains proved vital in establishing Liam Lawson's position to secure points, although he acknowledged that the Racing Bulls squad still had room for improvement when delivering consistently strong starts. Furthermore, he praised his team for making the correct tyre strategy call in challenging conditions.
His strong result in Malaysia followed his recent return to Racing Bulls after a three-race stint with Red Bull, requiring a readjustment period due to the differing characteristics of both machines.
"Other than the power unit, pretty much everything," he stated when asked about the differences between the two cars.
"It's very different to drive. So, it was definitely a little bit of an adjustment to go back," the young charger noted.
Attention now shifts to Singapore, where Liam Lawson scored his maiden F1 points back in 2023. This weekend, the challenge elevates as the Marina Bay venue hosts its very first sprint race weekend format.
"I like it. It's a really good track. And with sprint weekends, you just get sort of two shots at everything," Liam Lawson said, expressing his excitement for the night race spectacle.
