The WRC is officially set to return to the United States after an absence of nearly four decades, marking a monumental milestone for the global rallying championship. Alongside the confirmation of the British round to be held in Scotland, the return to American soil has been a long time coming since the last event took place back in 1988. This major calendar expansion has generated immense excitement across the motorsport community, signaling a strategic growth for the series in North America.
FIA Deputy President for Sport, Malcolm Wilson, acknowledged that bringing the championship back to the United States was a primary objective from the very beginning of his collaboration with the new promoter. The immense effort poured into making the event a reality has ultimately paid off, reshaping the future landscape of the championship.
Elaborating on the background of the calendar update, Malcolm Wilson highlighted how crucial this milestone is for the sport and participating manufacturers. "When I began working with the new promoter right from the outset, one of the main objectives was to make sure we could find a way to bring a WRC round to the United States," stated Malcolm Wilson. He further noted, "They have done a tremendous amount of work and gone to great lengths to make the event happen. As you can imagine, this was probably one of the factors behind Ford’s return. So, a huge thank you to the new promoter team for their commitment and for getting the US round onto the calendar."

FIA Road Sport Director Emilia Abel emphasized that expanding the calendar was handled with strict precision rather than being done arbitrarily. The overarching goal remains centered on maintaining a sustainable structure for the championship. "The aim is to find the best possible balance for the WRC and serve the interests of all stakeholders," explained Emilia Abel.
Meanwhile, WRC Promoter Chief Operating Officer Julien Vial expressed full confidence that the timing for the US return is completely accurate. With incoming technical regulations and cost-reduction measures making the sport increasingly accessible, the championship is positioned for sustainable growth. Vial confirmed that while the final format will respect traditional rallying values, organizers are actively working on delivering a spectacular opening ceremony to captivate fans worldwide when the event kicks off in 2027.
