Liam Lawson is back in a Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car, and Yuki Tsunoda returns to the grid at the Dutch Grand Prix. Both have been drafted in to cover for Isack Hadjar, who is sidelined with a wrist injury.
Red Bull's decision to put Lawson in the main team makes sense. He has more experience with the 2026 car, particularly with energy recovery and deployment. That's an edge Tsunoda lacks, even though he is officially Red Bull Racing's reserve driver.
Tsunoda, however, might benefit from staying with Racing Bulls. The car is currently the class of the midfield, and Tsunoda has done his best work there. This is a golden chance to catch the eye of other teams, rather than being thrown into the Red Bull pressure cooker.

For Lawson, this is a rare second chance. After being treated unfairly early last season, he must prove he belongs in F1. Meanwhile, Arvid Lindblad's name was floated, but Red Bull chose not to rush his promotion.
Lindblad has impressed in his rookie season, only a tenth off Lawson in qualifying. But giving him time to develop without excessive pressure is a wise move. His future at Red Bull remains bright.
So, were these the right calls? For Red Bull, yes. For Tsunoda, it's a good opportunity. For Lawson, it's a big test. And for Lindblad, his time will come.
