Lando Norris has made a striking admission ahead of the Formula 1 race weekend, revealing that he has to take headache tablets to cope with the severe track surface conditions at the Circuit of the Americas. The state of the Texas asphalt had earlier drawn fierce criticism from reigning world champion Max Verstappen, who voiced serious concerns over potential spinal compression due to the aggressive bumps.

Asked about his rival's remarks on Thursday, the McLaren star openly agreed with the assessment regarding the rough nature of the venue. The British driver noted that the Austin layout no longer measures up to the stringent tolerances and safety regulations enforced by the FIA for modern racing circuits.

"If you build a new track now, the FIA has the rules and regulations for building a new track and the tolerances you have to be within are pretty small," Lando Norris stated when discussing the track conditions at COTA, as reported by RacingNews365. He acknowledged that while it is an older facility, the current state falls remarkably short of contemporary design standards.

The underlying softness of the land in Austin has historically made long-term resurfacing efforts extremely difficult, meaning unevenness continues to plague both two-wheel and four-wheel categories visiting the venue year after year despite multiple partial patches.

"It is pretty bad, and there are places where I need to take headache tablets before I go out, simply because it is so bumpy and you are hitting your head against the headrests because of the bumps. It is certainly not a nice thing, but there is not a lot we can do. We complain about it, and it is brought up many times, but there is only so much we can complain about things, but Verstappen is certainly right," he concluded.
