A stellar performance was delivered by championship leader Kimi Antonelli during an entertaining qualifying session for the traditional United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas outside Austin. The 20-year-old Italian claimed his seventh Formula 1 pole position of the season and his first at the popular Texas venue.
For Mercedes, this marks their 155th pole position in the pinnacle of motorsport and the twelfth of the ongoing campaign. The opening segment of qualifying got underway with air temperatures at 30 degrees Celsius and the track measuring 42 degrees Celsius, accompanied by gusty winds across the asphalt.
Track limits immediately became a talking point following numerous deleted lap times in practice, while race control issued warnings regarding a slippery surface approaching Turn 1. Residual oil, coolant, and carbon debris from an earlier Porsche Cup support race necessitated cement dust deployment, creating unique grip challenges.

Early in the session, Charles Leclerc set the initial benchmark while showing visible caution regarding track boundaries. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen quickly slotted into the leading group, keeping the pressure high on his rivals in the tight championship battle.
As the session reached its climax, tire strategy and precise timing proved decisive. Antonelli managed to extract maximum performance from his machinery under intense pressure, ultimately storming to the front of the grid to claim a crucial pole position ahead of Sunday's main race.
