Kimi Antonelli extended his lead at the top of the 2026 Formula 1 standings after winning the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.

The Mercedes driver capitalised on George Russell’s retirement after his team-mate was involved in first-lap contact with Lewis Hamilton. Antonelli then hunted down Charles Leclerc and secured victory to strengthen his championship position.

Antonelli entered the Belgian weekend with only a 25-point advantage over Russell. The Spa result reshaped the order behind him, with Hamilton moving into second place in the standings after finishing fourth in the race.

George Russell dropped to third following his second retirement of the season. The lost points significantly increased his deficit to Antonelli ahead of the final round before the summer break.

Charles Leclerc remained fourth after finishing second at Spa, while Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen continued their battle in the next group. The Belgian Grand Prix result also widened the separation between the leading three drivers and the rest of the field.

Antonelli now heads to the Hungarian Grand Prix with strong momentum after claiming the sixth victory of his Formula 1 career. Mercedes will aim to preserve that advantage, while Hamilton and Russell require major results to reduce the gap before the summer break.
