Joan Mir Suffers Mysterious Vision Issues and Forced Retirement in Sepang

Joan Mir's race weekend at the Sepang International Circuit for the Malaysian Grand Prix ended in profound disappointment. After displaying promising speed since Friday's practice sessions by securing a direct entry into Q2, the factory Honda rider was ultimately forced to limp back to the garage early due to physical constraints that suddenly flared up mid-race.

During the main Grand Prix, the Spanish rider could not complete the distance after his body gave way in the second half of the race. The notoriously grueling heat and humidity of the Sepang circuit compounded the physical challenge for the rider, who had been working tirelessly to rebuild his fitness following a lengthy absence from active competition.

Speaking to DAZN, while stars like Marc Marquez battled at the sharp end of the field, all eyes inside the Honda pit box were on Mir as he detailed his ordeal. "I had to retire because of some issues that had not appeared in recent races," he stated with palpable disappointment.

He elaborated that the vision problems which previously plagued him resurfaced aboard his RC213V machine. "I am disappointed because I thought I was in better shape. It is clear that the track conditions today were truly extreme, but we worked hard to try to arrive in the best possible condition and I genuinely thought this wouldn't happen to me anymore," he continued.

The situation reached a critical breaking point just past the halfway mark of the race. "When I was only in ninth or tenth position, right at the halfway point, my vision started getting blurry and I lost control of the situation. Before things got worse, I pulled in because that was what we had agreed upon. I am disappointed and also a bit worried," he concluded.
