The premier class grid faces another major shake-up as Alex Marquez officially confirms his withdrawal from the upcoming round in Qatar. The prominent Gresini Racing rider has decided to undergo immediate surgery in Madrid to resolve persistent right shoulder issues that have plagued him for months.
The physical torment originated from a heavy crash during the month of May in Catalunya. Despite displaying remarkable grit and recently securing a podium finish at Sepang, the unbearable pain forced the Spanish rider to conclude that postponing medical intervention any further was simply no longer feasible.
"Ever since I returned following my crash in Catalunya, I have suffered a great deal with my right shoulder," Marquez stated after wrapping up the race weekend in Malaysia. "I have decided to undergo surgery in Madrid and I sincerely hope to make my return in Portimao in three weeks' time."

Medical experts will perform a dual procedure during a single operation, which involves removing a large metal plate embedded in his shoulder. Additionally, accumulated fluids will be drained, and ongoing inflammatory reactions in the joint will be actively treated.
The lingering injury severely restricted the Gresini rider's ability to maintain physical conditioning at home. Throughout demanding Grand Prix weekends, he had to rely heavily on pain-suppressing injections just to pilot his machine through intense practice and race sessions.
"I have no muscle mass left, absolutely nothing," Marquez described regarding his depleted physical condition. With consecutive flyaway events placing extreme demands on the body, the painkiller injections steadily lost their effectiveness.
This decisive medical step means Marquez will definitely sit out the Qatar fixture, adding further woes to the Gresini Racing garage which has also missed Fermin Aldeguer due to injury. Achieving full recovery is paramount as the Spaniard looks ahead to his future factory transition.
