The final motorcycle Grand Prix scheduled at the iconic Phillip Island circuit was officially called off on Sunday due to severely restricted visibility that heavily impacted emergency medical helicopter operations. Race direction had no alternative but to cancel the premier class main event, following earlier cancellations for both the Moto3 and Moto2 categories. This unfortunate development brought a premature and anticlimactic end to a historic racing venue's long-standing run without any competitive racing action on race day.

Event organizers had initially spent hours trying to salvage the racing schedule by repeatedly postponing session times and monitoring changing weather patterns. Pit lane opening times were pushed back as officials waited persistently for conditions to clear up around the coastal layout. Unfortunately, the necessary improvements in visibility never materialized. Operating without guaranteed medical helicopter deployment violates strict safety protocols, making a race start completely impossible under those hazardous circumstances.

In lieu of competitive racing, fans were treated to a bittersweet farewell paradelap around the legendary layout. The premier class riders completed a slow formation lap behind the safety car before coming to a complete stop on the main straight to wave goodbye and thank the passionate grandstand crowds. Due to the exceptional logistical constraints and time adjustments following the cancellation, post-race media debriefings with the riders were officially waived.

From a championship perspective, the sudden cancellation unexpectedly favored Jorge Martin. The factory Aprilia rider was already ruled out of Sunday's action following a heavy crash during the previous day's sprint race. With the main race scrapped, his immediate title rivals were left unable to capitalize on his absence or score crucial championship points. This twist of fate prevented title contenders from pulling away further in the overall standings during the final hours of the weekend.

Martin's crash occurred during a fierce battle for the lead against Marc Marquez through the high-speed turn eight section. Medical scans later confirmed a radius fracture and potential wrist damage, forcing the Spaniard to sit out the remainder of the event. Sprint race points remained valid, meaning Marquez kept the championship lead he secured after winning Saturday's contest ahead of the chasing pack. As the curtain falls on this historic venue before the planned move to a new Adelaide street circuit in 2027, the weekend concluded under deeply unfortunate weather constraints.
