A major strategic move has been officially confirmed as Diogo Moreira prepares to step up to the manufacturer's factory premier class squad starting in the 2027 season. Tuesday's announcement finalizes the Japanese manufacturer's roster plans, confirming that the Brazilian standout will partner Fabio Quartararo inside the primary garage.
This major development also clarifies the pathway for David Alonso, who secured an agreement with HRC months ago for a premier class promotion in 2027. Rather than stepping straight into the factory squad, the talented youngster will instead join the LCR satellite outfit, taking over the seat vacated by Moreira. This structural adjustment highlights how executive management evaluates performance and progression metrics across the developmental pipeline.
Succeeding as reigning Moto2 world champion in his rookie premier class campaign, Moreira has thoroughly delivered on the brief given by HRC management. His remarkable consistency has consistently turned heads among Japanese executives, currently placing him 15th in the overall standings with 74 points, level with Quartararo. Having secured five top-ten finishes—highlighted by a sixth place in Hungary and a sprint runner-up finish at Motegi—he stands as Honda's second-highest ranked competitor behind Luca Marini.

Looking ahead to the operational setup, Moreira is anticipated to collaborate with crew chief Andres Madrid arriving from KTM, while Santi Hernandez will oversee Alonso's transition into the premier division. Reflecting on the milestone, Moreira expressed his gratitude in an official team statement. "It’s an amazing feeling to join the factory team; it’s something every rider dreams of when they are young. I want to thank everyone at HRC for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to take the next step in this project," said Moreira.
The management's preference for Moreira aligns logically when analyzing performance trajectories against Alonso. Despite dominating Moto3 in 2024, the Colombian's intermediate class campaign saw him settle into fifth overall with one victory at Assen and four podiums. Despite intense lobbying from the Wasserman Group to secure an immediate factory seat, influential figures within HRC ultimately favored a measured approach to protect the rookie from excessive premier-class pressure.
