Formula 1, Sportrik Media - The race engineer line-up for the 2026 Formula 1 season is almost fully confirmed across the paddock, with only one position yet to be officially announced ahead of the opening round. The role remains one of the most critical operational pillars within any F1 team, serving as the primary communication link between driver, pit wall and performance departments.

McLaren
At McLaren, reigning world champion Lando Norris continues his long-standing partnership with Will Joseph, the only race engineer he has worked with since making his Formula 1 debut in 2019. Joseph also serves as the team’s director of race engineering.
Team-mate Oscar Piastri remains paired with Tom Stallard. An Olympic silver medallist in rowing at the 2008 Beijing Games, Stallard brings extensive engineering experience, having previously worked with multiple F1 drivers before partnering Piastri.

Mercedes
Mercedes retains the established pairing of George Russell and Marcus Dudley for a fourth consecutive season, a collaboration that began in 2023.
On the opposite side of the garage, rookie Kimi Antonelli continues working with Peter Bonnington. Bonnington previously formed the most successful driver-engineer partnership in Formula 1 history alongside Lewis Hamilton, securing 83 victories and six drivers’ titles between 2013 and 2024.

Red Bull Racing
At Red Bull Racing, the long-term partnership between Max Verstappen and Gianpiero Lambiase remains unchanged since 2016. The collaboration has delivered 71 race wins and four world championships.
Verstappen’s new team-mate, Isack Hadjar, will work with Richard Wood, who previously served in performance engineering roles before stepping up to race engineer responsibilities.
Ferrari
The most fluid situation is at Ferrari, where Lewis Hamilton is currently the only driver on the grid without a confirmed permanent race engineer for 2026. Riccardo Adami was reassigned ahead of the new season following their 2025 partnership, and a full-time replacement has yet to be officially announced.
During pre-season testing, Hamilton worked with Carlo Santi, who is expected to continue in the interim until a permanent appointment is made. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc remains paired with Bryan Bozzi.

Williams
At Williams, Alex Albon once again partners James Urwin, who brings nearly a decade of race engineering experience.
Alongside him, Carlos Sainz enters a second season working with Gaetan Jago after their collaboration produced two podium finishes in 2025.
Haas
There are no changes at Haas. Esteban Ocon continues with Laura Mueller, who made history in 2025 as Formula 1’s first female race engineer.
Oliver Bearman remains paired with Ronan O’Hare, who progressed from performance engineer to race engineer during Bearman’s first full season.
Other Teams
Aston Martin adopts a revised structure in 2026, deploying senior race engineers to support its regular driver-engineer pairings for Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.
Alpine maintains stability with Pierre Gasly and Josh Peckett, while Franco Colapinto continues alongside Stuart Barlow.
New entrant Audi retains continuity from Sauber’s final season, while debutant Cadillac has selected experienced engineering personnel for its first Formula 1 campaign.
With 24 race engineer positions across 11 teams — 23 officially confirmed — operational cohesion, clarity of communication and strategic execution will be decisive factors in the early phase of the 2026 season. Technical stability in these partnerships is expected to influence competitive balance as the championship battle begins to take shape.
