Franco Colapinto Slams Online Abuse Targeting Alpine Staff in F1 2026

Young driver Franco Colapinto felt compelled to speak out openly regarding the recurring issue of social media abuse throughout the 2026 Formula 1 season. The topic of online toxicity has been a frequent subject during his media sessions, from an exclusive interview in Monaco to numerous race weekends that followed.

Following the Singapore Grand Prix, however, the Alpine driver felt the urgency to go a step further by addressing his fanbase directly via a video message. Among other things, he expressed appreciation for all the support while emphasizing that directing hate towards others does nothing to help his own F1 career.

According to Motorsport.com, when asked about his statement ahead of the United States Grand Prix weekend, Colapinto elaborated on why he had to take action. He noted that while he is always grateful for genuine fans, the toxic side of fandom has crossed lines recently and fails to help athletes perform at their absolute best.

"First of all, I've always been very grateful for all the fans supporting me," said Colapinto when asked about his statement. "But I think in every sport and fan base, it's got a bad side as well, the hate side of people putting bad comments and not helping athletes perform at their best. To me, it crossed a few lines lately."

Explaining further, Colapinto revealed that members of his own team had been targeted on social media. He found it entirely unacceptable that individuals working tirelessly behind the scenes were being subjected to unwarranted hostility.

"Especially my mechanics got a lot of hate," revealed the 23-year-old. "My engineers as well, people from my team that want me to do well and that help me to perform. I'm working with them daily and seeing them getting these kind of messages, it just hurts me in general."
