Monza, September 7, 2025 – Any hope of a Ferrari victory on home soil at the Italian Grand Prix evaporated within two disastrous laps. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton collided at the first corner, sending Hamilton onto the gravel and dropping him to tenth, before Leclerc crashed spectacularly at Parabolica on the second lap.
The incident sparked intense debate over blame, but the more obvious conclusion is that the Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton duo are not racing each other like teammates. In a post-race interview, Hamilton highlighted the lack of clear team rules, a criticism he also voiced during the Dutch Grand Prix.
“I think it comes down to rules of engagement. When I was at Mercedes, we had written rules. Here, there are no rules. We need to address that,” said Hamilton, who joined Ferrari in 2025. This adds to a series of recent public critiques from Hamilton regarding Ferrari's decision-making, including a frustrated radio outburst in Zandvoort where he felt the team cost him a potential podium.
The failure at Monza is a significant blow for Ferrari, who were already aware that a home win was unrealistic given their lack of race pace. However, the clash between their own drivers is an avoidable mistake that could have been prevented with clear team rules. Hamilton, who finished sixth after the team opted not to pit him under a virtual safety car, stressed that Ferrari needs to improve its internal communication and strategy.
