Envision Formula E Team has officially announced a brand-new driver line-up for Season 13 and beyond, signing Maximilian Guenther, a seven-time race winner, and Zak O'Sullivan, a promising British talent promoted from development driver.
This move marks a complete overhaul at the Silverstone-based squad as Formula E prepares for the GEN4 era, featuring faster, all-wheel-drive cars. Guenther, 29, brings a wealth of experience from eight seasons in the electric championship. He has signed a multi-year contract and boasts an impressive resume: seven victories, 12 podiums, and four pole positions. Notably, he won Formula E's inaugural Pit Boost race at the Season 11 Jeddah E-Prix.
“Season 13 is going to be an important year for all teams; learning the GEN4 car as well as a new sporting format, which is going to put an even bigger focus on outright pace and speed,” said Sylvain Filippi, Managing Director and CTO of Envision. This highlights that the GEN4 transition is not just a technical shift but also demands strategic adaptation.
Guenther expressed confidence in the team's technical foundation, which utilises a Jaguar powertrain package. “I'm very happy to become a Paysafe Envision Formula E driver for the GEN4 era and I really look forward to our future together,” he stated. “The team has a very successful history in Formula E and exceptional quality throughout the organisation. Our aim is to combine our strengths and achieve great success, competing at the very top. I truly believe we have all the ingredients to build something really special together.”
He further cited the environment, ambition, mindset, and technical package with Jaguar as key factors in his decision. “I'm proud to become part of the team and have a fantastic feeling about our future,” he added. The combination of Guenther's experience and O'Sullivan's speed is expected to push Envision to the front of the grid.
O'Sullivan, who served as the team's development driver, earns a full-time race seat after spending Season 12 embedding himself within the squad through simulator work and multiple rookie test sessions in Jeddah, Berlin, Miami, and Madrid. “We are very happy to announce Zak as a full-time driver for Season 13 and beyond,” Filippi said. “We've spent a lot of time with him during Season 12, and he has established himself in the team very well. We have been very impressed with Zak's performance, both on the track during the rookie sessions, and his commitment off-track. We are very much looking forward to seeing him race in our car and embarking on his rookie season in Formula E with us.”
For O'Sullivan, the transition to GEN4 is the ideal moment to make his series debut. “I am very excited to be joining the team full-time for the upcoming season,” he said. “I've spent the last year embedding myself into the team and can't wait to get the season started.” With the new format and faster cars, this duo is one of the most anticipated pairings on next season's grid.
