Dan Ticktum secured pole position for the opening race of the 2026 Formula E Monaco E-Prix after defeating Nyck de Vries in the final qualifying duel at the Circuit de Monaco.
The Cupra Kiro driver posted a 1m26.551s lap to finish 0.131 seconds faster than de Vries during the decisive pole-position showdown. The result marks an important breakthrough for Ticktum, who has struggled to consistently score major points throughout the 2026 Formula E season.
From a technical perspective, Monaco once again highlighted the importance of energy efficiency and traction out of slow-speed corners in the latest generation Formula E cars. Ticktum looked particularly strong during acceleration phases in the final sector, which proved decisive throughout the knockout duels.

Maximilian Gunther will start from third position alongside Mitch Evans on the second row. Evans arrives in Monaco carrying strong momentum after his victory in Berlin brought him back into the championship battle.
Championship leader Pascal Wehrlein will line up fifth on the grid directly behind Evans. The gap between the two drivers in the standings currently stands at only three points, making Monaco a potentially crucial weekend in the Formula E title fight.
Meanwhile, Antonio Felix da Costa could manage only eighth place despite Jaguar once again showing competitive race pace simulations. Oliver Rowland qualified 12th after struggling to maximise grip during the closing stages of qualifying.
The qualifying result creates a major opportunity for Ticktum to challenge for a breakthrough victory in Monaco. However, with Formula E remaining highly sensitive to Attack Mode timing and energy management strategy, the race is still expected to remain extremely unpredictable.
