Porsche Reveals Historic Livery for Formula E Title Decider in London

Ahead of the dramatic Formula E season finale at the London E-Prix this weekend, Porsche is bringing more than just speed—it's bringing history. The team has unveiled a one-off livery paying tribute to the legendary Porsche 956, which scored a dominant 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans in 1982, complete with the iconic Rothmans branding.

The German manufacturer arrives at the final round of the all-electric championship's 12th season already crowned as Manufacturers' World Champions, a title secured in Tokyo. Now, their focus shifts to the Drivers' Championship, where Pascal Wehrlein and teammate Nico Mueller both remain mathematically in contention.

Wehrlein sits third in the standings, just five points behind leader Jake Dennis. The German knows what it takes to win in the capital, having clinched his and Porsche's first title there last season after a dramatic leapfrog over both Jaguar drivers in the Season 10 finale. That experience could prove invaluable under pressure.

Mueller, eighth in the standings, has a slim mathematical chance of winning his maiden championship. More likely, he could play the role of a supporting act for Wehrlein if circumstances demand it—a strategic dynamic that could define Porsche's weekend.

The special livery is more than just nostalgia. Rothmans, synonymous with the 956, also adorned Porsche's Dakar-winning car in 1984 and served as title sponsor for Williams in Formula 1. It's a nod to a rich motorsport heritage that has shaped Porsche's identity for decades.

“Before the season, our goal was to arrive in London fighting for the titles. That is the positive side. At the same time, there were several races this year where we could have achieved more. Even so, it feels good to know that we are still in the title fight and have everything in our own hands,” Wehrlein said, as quoted by Motorsport Week.

“We have already won the Manufacturers’ World Championship. Now we will give everything to secure more titles.” With the Teams' Championship still up for grabs, Porsche is aiming for a clean sweep in London, and with this historic livery, they're ready to make a statement.
