Colapinto Alpine Deal: F1 Fans Say Silly Season Now Serious

Franco Colapinto has secured a contract extension with Alpine for the 2027 Formula 1 season, a move that not only cements his future but also dampens the swirling driver market speculation.

Since stepping up from a reserve role to replace Jack Doohan during 2025, Colapinto has shown significant progress. After the first 12 rounds of 2026, he sits 12th in the drivers' championship with 19 points, while teammate Pierre Gasly is 10th with 44 points.

Fan Reactions: Stability Amid Speculation

The news has been met with largely positive reactions from fans, who see it as a sensible decision. One Reddit user commented, "Silly season now serious season. Happy for him though!" Another added, "This season is so sensible that it's silly."

Colapinto's extension is part of a series of contract renewals that have locked in the grid. Prior to this, Max Verstappen signed an extension with Red Bull until 2030, and Williams secured Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz. The flurry of announcements has effectively shut down multiple silly season rumors.

Fans also highlighted Colapinto's improvement. "He has improved significantly and is more often than not following closely behind Pierre, which is no easy feat. Vamos Franco!" wrote one fan. Another added, "Even though he took over the seat from a fellow Australian, I've come to like his personality, and he's quite fast. Looking forward to seeing him next year."

There's also recognition of his commercial value. "Sensible decision. He's doing a good job, bringing in sponsor money, and highly appreciated in his home country. Why fire him?" posed a fan. However, some still speculate that Esteban Ocon could be the only driver to switch teams next season.

With this deal, Alpine has shown full confidence in Colapinto, offering him a solid platform to continue his development and compete in the midfield of F1.
