A dramatic finish unfolded at the Bathurst 1000 as two Walkinshaw TWG drivers suffered heavy crashes at the Mount Panorama circuit. Ryan Wood was the first to slip up, losing control of his car on Lap 139 of 161 at Reid Park and hitting the outside concrete wall squarely, causing significant damage to the left-hand side of the vehicle.
Despite the ferocity of the impact, the New Zealander managed to return to the track late in the race, ultimately classified 24th alongside co-driver Jaxon Evans. This marked Wood's second major accident of the weekend following an earlier crash at Forrest's Elbow during Practice 3.
"First of all, a big credit to the guys and girls in the team, a massive effort to just get us out there, we knew it was going to be an uphill battle and it sure was today," Wood reflected after the race. He noted that starting from the rear left the team with stacked odds and a lack of overall speed to make meaningful progress.

Meanwhile, Chaz Mostert fell victim to a nearly identical mishap at Forrest's Elbow on Lap 156. The two-time Bathurst 1000 winner clipped the inside wall, which violently propelled his car straight into the outside tyre barrier with only five laps remaining.
"Just six laps from home and unfortunately binned the car at the elbow, just locked the rears a little bit, you use that kind of balance of the car to rotate the car in but late in the afternoon and I got a bit too narrow," Mostert explained regarding the late-race incident that forced him to watch the final laps from the sidelines.
With a short turnaround ahead of the Gold Coast 500 on October 23-25, Walkinshaw TWG has swiftly opted to transition Mostert into the team's spare chassis, WR 029, as they regroup for the upcoming finals.
