Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Charles Leclerc has expressed encouragement over Ferrari’s early data correlation at the 2026 Formula 1 Bahrain pre-season test, stating that on-track findings are closely matching simulator predictions.
Ferrari enters the 2026 campaign aiming to re-establish itself at the front of the grid following a challenging 2025 season. During the opening day of testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, Leclerc shared driving duties with team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton completed the morning session before Leclerc took over in the afternoon. The Monegasque driver set the third-fastest lap of the day and accumulated 79 laps, adding to the 52 laps recorded earlier by Hamilton.
“It was a productive half day of testing for me, as we were able to complete the programme without any major issues, which is always a positive at this stage,” Leclerc said.
He highlighted that the conditions in Bahrain provided a different reference point compared to the earlier Barcelona shakedown, offering valuable insight into the car’s adaptability.
“The feeling was quite different compared to Barcelona, as the conditions here are very different, but that’s exactly what we need — gaining experience on another track and understanding how the car behaves in different scenarios.”
The 2026 season marks a significant regulatory shift, with major changes to both aerodynamic philosophy and power unit architecture. In such an environment, correlation between simulator models and real-world performance becomes critical for efficient development.
Leclerc pointed to this correlation as one of the most promising signs from Ferrari’s early running.
“So far, the data is broadly in line with what we expected from our simulations, which is encouraging,” he explained.
Strong alignment between simulation tools — including CFD, wind tunnel testing, and driver-in-the-loop simulators — and on-track telemetry suggests Ferrari’s baseline concept is functioning within its predicted operating window.
Leclerc emphasised that the immediate priority remains systematic programme execution to ensure readiness for the season opener.
“Now the focus is on continuing to work through the programme and making sure we are as prepared as possible for the first race.”
With limited testing days available before competitive action begins, Ferrari’s ability to maintain reliable technical correlation could prove decisive in closing the performance gap to its principal rivals under the new regulatory framework.
The remaining Bahrain test sessions will provide further clarity on whether Ferrari’s encouraging early indicators can translate into consistent race-weekend competitiveness as the 2026 Formula 1 season approaches.
