Supercars' latest parity decision favoring the Chevrolet Camaro has sparked fresh controversy. Scott Pye, a Chevrolet driver, has openly criticized the move, branding it 'communism' and urging the series to adopt a Balance of Performance (BoP) system akin to GT racing.
As reported by Speedcafe, Supercars is poised to confirm a change to the Camaro following a parity review triggered by recent results. The series reintroduced a formal parity review system this year, using lap time and results calculations to compare manufacturer performance. The complex mathematical formula, when triggered, requires a review, but Supercars is only obligated to act if a significant discrepancy is found.
This isn't the first adjustment for the Camaro. Earlier this season, they received a two-stage aerodynamic balance shift, signed off to correct an unfavorable balance from off-season wind tunnel testing. Supercars had previously declared parity was achieved through its latest multi-million dollar wind tunnel testing that homologated all three cars last December.
Pye is among those who believe this latest change signals Supercars has abandoned its technical parity mandate. Categories like GT racing use a sporting parity system called 'Balance of Performance' to even the field based on track data. "Let's just go BoP. Throw this in the bin, this isn't working," Pye said in a video posted to his Apex Hunters United social media channels. "We celebrate last year 'we've got parity'. This is sporting parity... They've introduced the new rule now where it's sporting parity and not technical parity that will trigger these reviews."
The parity script has flipped this year with GM playing catch-up against a dominant Ford, which had received in-season aero tweaks during both the 2023 and '25 campaigns. This coincides with Triple Eight Race Engineering's switch from Chevrolet to Ford, taking over Blue Oval homologation duties from Dick Johnson Racing. Triple Eight's defection left a hole in the Chevrolet ranks, triggering commentary earlier this year about 'A-grade' and 'B-grade' drivers.
"We've got to ask ourselves the question, would this be an issue if Triple Eight was still running GM?" Pye added. "Call me [biased], whatever you want, but at this point this isn't about A-grade, B-grade drivers, this is about teams. The results and the championship order have not really changed for these Chev teams, we just now don't have a Chev team at the front battling with the Fords."
Leading GM squad Team 18 currently sits sixth in the teams' championship standings, one position lower than its 2025 finish. Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing, and Erebus Motorsport fill ninth through 11th, having finished eighth, 10th, and ninth respectively last year. All three squads have been leapfrogged by the Blanchard Racing Team Ford squad, which has climbed the standings in its first year as a Triple Eight customer.
