British GP 2026: Fernandez Wins, Martin 2nd, Bezzecchi Heroic

Raul Fernandez delivered a masterclass at the 2026 MotoGP British Grand Prix, storming to victory at Silverstone on Sunday (Aug 23). The Aprilia rider dominated from the very first lap, cementing his status as one of the premier class's fastest men.

A perfect start was the key to Fernandez's win. Unlike in the Sprint, he took the lead at Turn 1 and never looked back. Jorge Martin, starting second, struggled early with a ride-height device issue that remained active through the first two fast corners. As a result, Fernandez was able to gap the field before Martin could find his rhythm.

Despite losing the lead, Martin rode smartly. He didn't risk chasing the already-distant Fernandez, instead securing valuable points for the championship fight. With this result, Jorge Martin extended his championship lead to 31 points over Marco Bezzecchi, 37 over Ai Ogura, and 40 over Marc Marquez.

The spotlight also shone on Marco Bezzecchi. The Aprilia rider produced a heroic ride to finish third despite physical discomfort. His last-lap defense against Alex Marquez to hold onto the podium was one of the most emotional moments of the race.

Meanwhile, drama unfolded further back. Francesco Bagnaia crashed out on lap 7, joining a list of fallers that included Ai Ogura, Cal Crutchlow, and Iker Lecuona. This failure deals a severe blow to Bagnaia's already fading title hopes.

Marc Marquez could only manage seventh, 9.5 seconds behind the winner. A disappointing result for the Ducati rider, who had shown promising pace in practice. Fabio Quartararo finished 12th, while Johann Zarco failed to impress.

With this win, Fernandez proves he's more than just a grid filler. He now has two premier class victories and is ready to be a serious contender for the remainder of the season. The next round takes place at Aragon on August 28-30.
