Valtteri Bottas faced an extraordinary physical and mental test ahead of the Formula 1 race weekend. According to The-Race, the Cadillac F1 driver opted to cycle more than 200 miles from Malaysia to the Singapore Grand Prix over a grueling three-day journey. The ambitious idea originally started as a light-hearted comment from his partner and professional cyclist, Tiffany Cromwell, who noted the geographical proximity between Kuala Lumpur and the Marina Bay circuit venue.
As a keen and competitive cyclist, Bottas carefully evaluated the logistics to ensure the elongated journey would not eat into his critical recovery time ahead of Friday practice and sprint qualifying. Plotted with the help of local cyclists and backed by a nearby support vehicle, the plan saw him tackle around 100 miles on both Monday and Tuesday, leaving a shorter recovery ride to finish the trek on Wednesday.
Bottas joked that the bicycle seat turns into a cheese grinder during such a sweaty expedition, but insisted he would never jeopardize his on-track performance. Instead, he viewed the intense heat exposure as a potential benefit for heat acclimatisation at one of the most physically demanding events of the year, noting it was less demanding than his usual single-day endurance efforts.

However, the real intensity spiked when navigating sections of the route at night while dodging unexpected wildlife. Bottas encountered several snakes along the path, including a cobra and a python crossing right in front of him, alongside a large monitor lizard that he had to jump his bike over at the very last second. He was also chased by a dog and temporarily blocked by a group of cows on a narrow track.
The wildest element of the trip proved to be night-riding through the jungle, where the eerie forest noises made his mind play games regarding what might be lurking in the dark. Relying solely on his bike lights along single tracks in the pitch black delivered the most epic chapter of the journey, pushing the Finn straight into the demanding rhythm of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend.
