Marco Bezzecchi bounced back from his FP1 defeat to top the Practice session at the San Marino MotoGP in Misano. The Aprilia rider set a blistering 1:30.144, edging out Marc Marquez by a mere 0.103 seconds. This victory was particularly sweet for Bezzecchi, who was performing in front of his home crowd, and he managed to master the crucial sectors to secure the top spot.
From the start of the session, Bezzecchi showed impressive pace. After losing out to Marquez by six thousandths in FP1, he was determined not to let the opportunity slip in Practice. With a fresh tyre, he unleashed a stunning lap, setting record times in the first three sectors, though he had to concede the final sector to Marquez. The 0.1-second gap highlighted the intense battle at the front.
Marc Marquez, on the other hand, opted for a different strategy. He chose not to use a second tyre for a time attack but was comfortable in second place, securing his spot in Q2. Behind him, Alex Marquez and the two VR46 riders, Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio, completed the top five. This showed that Ducati still dominates, albeit not at the very top.
However, the spotlight fell on Francesco Bagnaia. The two-time world champion endured another difficult session, finishing 19th, 1.315 seconds adrift of Bezzecchi. Bagnaia only managed to beat the Pramac riders, dealing a heavy blow to the factory Ducati team. His crisis seems far from over.
Meanwhile, Jorge Martin had to fight hard to make it into Q2. He was only 14 milliseconds away from the cut-off, eventually finishing 10th. The Aprilia rider was never truly comfortable throughout the session, but the result still granted him a ticket to Q2. Below him, Enea Bastianini and Raul Fernandez had to settle for places outside the top ten.
Other notable performers included Luca Marini in seventh, followed by Johann Zarco and Pol Espargaro. Fabio Quartararo had to settle for 16th, while Toprak Razgatlioglu, trying his hand in MotoGP, ended up 21st. This was a valuable learning experience for Razgatlioglu, who is still adapting to the Yamaha.
With this result, Bezzecchi sent a strong signal that he is ready to compete in front of his home fans. However, Marquez remains a major threat, especially if he uses a new tyre in Q2. Bagnaia, on the other hand, must find a solution quickly to avoid sinking further. Qualifying will be the real test for all riders, and we will see if Bezzecchi can maintain his momentum.
