Enea Bastianini has finally spoken out about his move to Aprilia satellite team Trackhouse for the 2027 season. The Italian rider revealed that Aprilia's interest actually began as early as his MotoGP debut season in 2020.
At that time, Aprilia was at the bottom of the constructors' standings, far from its current status as one of the leading manufacturers. Bastianini chose to join Avintia, which became a stepping stone in his Ducati career. From there, he rose to the factory Ducati team in 2023-2024, securing seven wins but failing to clinch the world title.
That failure saw his factory Ducati seat taken over by Marc Marquez for 2025. Bastianini was again on Aprilia's radar, but at that time he chose to join KTM via Tech3. However, that decision did not make him forget Aprilia.
“To be honest, we talked a lot in the past. Also when I swapped from Moto2 to MotoGP,” Bastianini said at Aragon on Thursday. “But this year, we talk more! Starting from the first race. We waited a long time for the announcement. But my mind was clear.”
The decision to move to Aprilia was not without consideration. Bastianini, currently 12th in the championship, admitted that KTM's lack of performance progress since 2025 was a major factor. “I have a very good relationship with Tech3 and every person inside the box and when you need to do a change it is always complicated,” he said. “I thought about my future very early this year, from the first race, because I saw a lot of potential on the Aprilia bikes and I thought it could be my future.”
Bastianini also stressed that his move was not a spur-of-the-moment decision. “Finally, on Monday we announced with Trackhouse and I am very excited for that. Next year we have different bikes, different tyre and it will change a lot. But I think I can be competitive,” he said.
He was also blunt about the stagnant performance of the KTM bike. “I need to be honest; we did not find a lot of speed from last year to now. Sometimes with my crew chief and all the technicians of KTM we find it. But not in every situation and for this I made the decision to change for the future,” he concluded.
