Gabriel Bortoleto is facing a potential disqualification from the Miami Grand Prix sprint after his Audi was found to have breached technical regulations by the FIA. The issue was identified during routine post-race scrutineering.
Bortoleto had finished 11th on the road in what was already a difficult outing for Audi. Team-mate Nico Hulkenberg failed to start the race after suffering a fire incident on the way to the grid, compounding the team’s challenges.
The infringement relates to engine air intake pressure exceeding the maximum permitted limit of 4.8 bar. In modern Formula 1 regulations, this parameter is tightly controlled due to its direct influence on power unit performance, particularly airflow and combustion efficiency.

"The intake pressure exceeded the permitted limit, which typically results in disqualification under technical regulations."
From a technical standpoint, increased intake pressure can provide a performance advantage by improving air supply to the engine, potentially boosting power output. However, any breach of the defined limit is considered an unfair advantage, making disqualification a standard consequence.
This case highlights the challenges Audi faces in its current development phase, particularly in balancing performance gains with strict regulatory compliance. The narrow tolerance margins demand high precision in system calibration and execution.
If confirmed, the disqualification would remove Bortoleto from the classification, impacting positions outside the points. Audi’s focus now shifts to technical evaluation and ensuring compliance in upcoming sessions, especially ahead of the main race in Miami and future rounds of the 2026 season.
