The 2026 MotoGP season was supposed to be a dominant stage for the Noale-based manufacturer after two consecutive race weekends on tracks that perfectly suited the characteristics of their machine. Aprilia racing boss Massimo Rivola openly admitted that his team failed to maximize that massive potential to score crucial points against their closest rivals in the world championship standings.
The Asian and Oceanian tour stops in Mandalika and Phillip Island were initially projected as a points harvest to widen the gap or at least cut the deficit. However, the final results showed the exact opposite where Jorge Martin lost the championship lead and sustained an injury, while Marco Bezzecchi failed to close the points gap significantly despite securing a Grand Prix victory.
Before the Indonesian round got underway, the battle at the top was extremely tight with Martin leading the standings. Although they made history in Mandalika by locking out the top four positions through the brilliant performance of the RS-GP bike, low front tire pressure issues and sprint race incidents caused that advantage to be wasted against pressure from Marc Marquez.

The situation was not much different when the paddock moved on to the Australian leg at Phillip Island. Their speed advantage in dry conditions during practice was clearly visible, but sudden extreme weather changes and qualifying mistakes ruined Aprilia's big ambitions to dominate Sunday's podium.
As reported by Speedweek, Rivola did not turn a blind eye to the bitter reality that their motorcycle performance advantage on paper did not translate into maximum points on the championship leaderboard. The failure to convert pure speed into maximum points now forces the Italian factory squad to work much harder in the remaining rounds of the season.
