Andrea Kimi Antonelli tightened his grip on the 2026 Formula 1 world championship with a commanding victory at the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid. The Mercedes driver's eighth win of the season extends his lead to 81 points over teammate George Russell.
Antonelli was in a class of his own around the Madring circuit, controlling the race from the front. Russell, starting from seventh, could only manage fifth after a two-stop strategy failed to pay off.
The day belonged to Antonelli, but the spotlight also fell on Lewis Hamilton, who failed to finish for the first time this year. The Ferrari driver now trails the leader by 101 points, effectively ending his bid for an eighth world title. Hamilton was visibly frustrated after the race but declined to comment.

Lando Norris continued his strong form with a third-place finish, moving to within five points of Hamilton in the standings. The McLaren driver is growing in confidence ahead of the upcoming races.
Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen complete the top five, with 167 and 145 points respectively. Both still have a mathematical chance, but Antonelli's consistency is making it increasingly difficult.
