The action at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos for the 2026 Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix heated up during the second free practice session. Anyone who thought Andrea Kimi Antonelli would ease off the throttle after securing the drivers' championship crown was proven completely wrong. The 20-year-old Mercedes starlet dominated the afternoon running by setting a blistering lap time of 1:10.763, leaving the rest of the competitive field trailing in his wake.
Behind the pace-setting Italian, the battle at the sharp end of the timing sheets remained fiercely contested. Lando Norris carved out the second-fastest time, just 253 milliseconds adrift, closely followed by Red Bull Racing spearhead Max Verstappen and George Russell. This tight margins at the top underscore how crucial every thousandth of a second will be for championship momentum heading into the remainder of the race weekend.
Conversely, it was a frustrating Friday afternoon for Scuderia Ferrari. Both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc struggled to find optimal rhythm, finishing down in sixth and seventh places respectively. Leclerc's flying lap was severely compromised by an unfortunate track-blocking incident with Haas rookie Rafael Camara on the final straight, forcing the Monegasque driver off the racing line and costing him valuable tenths.
Further down the pit lane, misfortune also struck Audi as Nico Hulkenberg failed to complete a single installation lap due to persistent technical gremlins carried over from earlier sessions. Meanwhile, the top ten was rounded out by standout midfield contenders Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar, and Oliver Bearman, who extracted maximum performance from their respective machinery.
Teams now turn their full attention toward Saturday's crucial final practice and qualifying sessions under the Sao Paulo sun. Read our in-depth analysis, expert paddock updates, and championship standings breakdown right here on Sportrik Media.
