ANDRA Season Opener: Four Winners Crowned at Alice Springs
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Shaun Boyer accepts his Alice Springs Toyota Desert Nationals round one trophy

Alice Springs Inland Dragway witnessed the birth of four new names in the new ANDRA Regional Sportsman Series 2026/2027 season. Shaun Boyer, Dazz Scott, Bailey Paul, and Zayne Condello all secured victories in the opening round of the 'Desert Double' weekend.

Round 1 formed the opening leg of the Alice Springs Toyota Desert Nationals on Saturday (Aug 29) local time. The double-header continues with Round 2 on Sunday (Aug 30), where racers will again battle it out on the iconic Red Centre strip.

Boyer emerged fastest in the Goodyear Racing Super Street class. The win was especially satisfying for him, continuing his strong form from the start of last season. "It's been a great day; the car has been going really well. There were a few little issues, but we fixed it and it was a great day," Boyer said. "I am speechless to get the win; I really can't believe it. There are a lot of hard racers here, and I was saying to myself this is going to be hard, but it was really, really good. I am overwhelmed really; really chuffed."

Boyer defeated Michael Jennings in the Super Street final, having earlier accounted for Mark Rossow and Andrew Waight. Jennings reached the decider with wins over top qualifier Jorja Stefanopoulos and Michael Bridges.

Scott prevailed over Derryn McGregor in the Modified Bike final, having started his day with a win over Greg Oberti before defeating defending champion and top qualifier Dean Jamieson. "I am really excited because I honestly didn't expect it. I do this on a beer budget because I love the atmosphere and the people and the riding. I am a little bit overwhelmed, this is not something I planned on or thought was going to happen," grinned Scott. "Everything went better than planned, obviously! I come and race for the grin, not the win, so to get a win is a bonus. I am certainly looking forward to tomorrow, and after today I am looking forward to the rest of the season!"

Defending champ Condello put together a standout run in Junior Dragster, defeating Karl Schulz, Decklan McGregor, and top qualifier Ava Walker before overcoming James Barlow in the final. Barlow's run to the decider included victories over Lachlan McGregor, Izzy Woolcock, and Luca Lamattina.

Paul claimed the Junior Drag Bike honours over reigning champ Cooper Plummer, backing up his top qualifying performance with a bye in the opening round and a win over Aliza Harris to reach the final. Plummer advanced with victories over Lawrence Raschella and Kobe Ashelford.

The non-championship Street Car bracket also competed Saturday, with top qualifier Michael Jury defeating Katrina Read in the final after a clean sweep. With Round 1 complete, racers now set their sights on Round 2, which will shape the early season momentum.
