Lewis Hamilton has openly admitted that his failed strategy gamble at Formula 1's Singapore Grand Prix was a painful lesson to absorb. The seven-year world champion took full responsibility after a crucial decision not to pit for fresh tyres during a mid-race virtual safety car cost him dearly at the Marina Bay Circuit.
Hamilton initially looked well on course to secure at least a podium finish in third place, but dramatically slipped backwards to finish sixth in the closing stages. The veteran driver was forced to complete a mammoth 44-lap stint on medium compound tyres which suffered heavily from performance drops and extreme degradation.
Following the chequered flag, the Ferrari charger was excused from media duties after visiting the FIA medical team due to feeling unwell. However, the Italian outfit shared official quotes outlining Hamilton's perspective on where the race strategy unravelled under the lights.

"Today wasn’t the result we were looking for and it was on me," Hamilton stated through the team. "At a track that’s difficult to overtake, you need to try something different and I chose to start on a new Medium tyre, to go long and try to make a one-stop work. Unfortunately the Medium didn’t perform as well as the soft."
He further explained that despite finding good pace in his second stint, track position constraints and missed pit entry during the virtual safety car forced a high-risk gamble. His race engineer Carlo Santi had instructed him to pit, but a missed entry led to staying out on worn rubber.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur confirmed to media outlets that the initial tactical plan involved pitting both cars, but acknowledged that the on-track execution ultimately deviated from the ideal podium trajectory, denying the team a potential double-podium finish.
Reflecting on the missed points, Hamilton vowed to leave the painful mistake behind, put the hard work back in, and return fighting at the upcoming rounds of the world championship.
