Alonso: More to Come for Aston Martin After Zandvoort Points

Fernando Alonso insists there is still plenty more to come from Aston Martin after a fighting ninth-place finish in a chaotic Dutch Grand Prix. The veteran Spaniard was all smiles despite starting from 18th on the grid, carving through the field to bank two valuable championship points.

Armed with a fresh Honda power unit and the major upgrade package introduced in Hungary, Alonso looked racy from the off. He finished one lap adrift of race winner Lando Norris, but crucially ahead of Alpine's Pierre Gasly, who took the final point in tenth.

Over the team radio, Alonso told Managing Technical Partner Adrian Newey that the car was 'lovely' to drive. Newey responded with high praise: "Well done Fernando, that was a great drive. Very disciplined and a great boost for everybody back at Silverstone. Thank you."

Alonso replied with a confident promise: "Yeah, absolutely. Thanks to you guys. Everyone in Silverstone, amazing. Lovely car to drive and more to come, I know." That sense of optimism underlines the belief that Aston Martin is finally turning a corner.

This result marks Alonso's second points finish of the season, following the team's first point at Monaco when Sergio Perez was handed a 10-second penalty. Cadillac now remains the only team yet to score, while Aston Martin is beginning to show signs of life.

But it was a different story on the other side of the garage. Lance Stroll was forced to retire with a suspected handling issue caused by damage to the car – a setback that tempers the team's positive momentum. Still, with Alonso's confidence and the development trajectory, there is genuine reason for hope at Silverstone.
