Alex Marquez believes the 2026 Catalan MotoGP provides the perfect opportunity to bounce back after what he described as a “disaster” weekend at the French Grand Prix in Le Mans.
The Gresini Racing rider endured a difficult weekend in France after crashing during Q2, leaving him only 10th on the starting grid. His problems worsened when he collected just two points across the entire event after finishing eighth in the Sprint Race before crashing in Sunday’s main grand prix.
The result represented a major contrast compared to his performance at Jerez two weeks earlier, where he secured his second consecutive MotoGP victory at the Spanish circuit.

Barcelona also carries special significance for Alex after he won last year’s Catalan MotoGP by defeating his brother, Marc Marquez, in what many considered one of the finest performances of his MotoGP career.
According to Alex, the characteristics of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya perfectly suit his riding style, particularly because the layout relies more on flow and traction rather than heavy braking zones.
“Le Mans for us was a disaster, especially from my side. The bike was actually ready to fight with the front guys, but I made too many mistakes during the key moments of the weekend,” Alex Marquez explained.
The Spanish rider added that Catalunya has always been a circuit where he naturally feels comfortable because of the rhythm and riding flow it allows him to maintain.
“We are coming to a track that suits my riding style very well, where I always find the flow. That gives me calmness and I know that if I do my job properly, I can be fast and at least fight for the podium,” he added.
Alex also believes Barcelona’s low-grip surface is another factor that often helps him perform strongly compared to many of his rivals.
“There are not many heavy braking points here. The circuit is more about flow and traction, and that is an area where I am quite strong. I can make the difference there,” Alex explained.
The Ducati rider admitted he still struggles slightly in braking and corner entry phases, but Catalunya’s emphasis on corner speed and traction perfectly complements his riding strengths.
Beyond the technical aspect, Alex also feels his extensive experience at Barcelona since his junior racing days gives him an additional advantage around the Catalan circuit.
