Jorge Martin claimed victory in the 2026 French MotoGP at the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans on Sunday (10/5/2026) after a dramatic race that also highlighted the growing strength of Aprilia at the front of the field.
The race began with Francesco Bagnaia starting from pole position for Ducati, but the Italian rider immediately lost momentum after suffering wheelspin off the line. The poor launch allowed Marco Bezzecchi to take over the race lead during the opening laps.
As the race progressed into the middle stages, Martin began increasing his pace and moved into the leading fight alongside Pedro Acosta. Ducati briefly returned to contention when Bagnaia climbed to second position on lap 15.

However, the decisive drama arrived one lap later when Bagnaia crashed out of the race. The incident instantly destroyed Ducati’s hopes of victory at Le Mans and added another major setback to its championship campaign.
Several other riders also failed to reach the finish in the difficult conditions. Joan Mir crashed in sector four, while Brad Binder, Alex Marquez, and Diogo Moreira were also classified as DNFs.
Following Bagnaia’s retirement, the race became fully controlled by the Aprilia trio at the front. Martin managed the gap carefully until the chequered flag, while Bezzecchi secured second position.
The biggest surprise came from rookie Ai Ogura, who delivered another impressive performance to secure third place. The Japanese rider once again demonstrated rapid adaptation to MotoGP machinery, especially in low-grip conditions.
The result further confirmed Aprilia’s major development progress throughout the 2026 MotoGP season. The RS-GP package looked particularly competitive in braking stability and acceleration out of slow corners, two crucial performance areas around the technical Le Mans circuit.
With Martin taking victory and Bezzecchi and Ogura completing a double podium for Aprilia, the Italian manufacturer has strengthened its position in the 2026 MotoGP title battle.
