MotoGP has officially unveiled its 2027 calendar, and it's more than just a list of circuits. 22 Grands Prix, 44 Races
A total of 22 rounds will be held, same as this year, with every weekend still featuring a Sprint Race. That means 44 races across the season. The action kicks off in Thailand on March 7 (Sprint on March 6) and concludes in Valencia on November 28. Valencia remains the season finale, as has become tradition in recent years.
Argentina Returns, Hungary Dropped
Surprising news comes with the return of Argentina to the calendar, but not at Termas de Rio Hondo as before. The Oscar and Juan Galvez circuit in Buenos Aires will host the event. Conversely, the Hungarian GP has been officially removed, marking a farewell to the Hungaroring. A change that reflects market dynamics and logistics.
Two Italian Rounds Remain
For Italian fans, good news: Mugello will host its race on May 28-30, while Misano will run on September 10-12. Both iconic circuits remain a key part of the calendar, despite some date shifts. Mugello will be the sixth round, right after Barcelona moves to late May.
Other Schedule Changes
Silverstone and Spielberg return to August after being held earlier last year. The Portuguese GP has been moved forward before the Asian tour, while Qatar is back as the second round of the season after being postponed last year due to regional conflicts. Barcelona also shifts after Mugello. All these changes are designed to create a more efficient season flow and reduce logistical burdens for teams.
Technical and Strategic Impact
The switch to 850cc bikes and Pirelli tires will force teams and riders to adapt completely. Less power, lighter weight, and different tire characteristics will alter riding styles, tire management strategies, and manufacturer competition. Ducati, Yamaha, Honda, KTM, and Aprilia must start development from scratch. Meanwhile, Pirelli faces a huge challenge to provide competitive tires at all circuits.
