WRC Titles That Could Be Decided at Rally Chile 2026

Rally Chile 2026 is more than just another round in the World Rally Championship. The South American gravel event could host the coronation of at least one champion, and possibly more.

Manufacturers' Title: Toyota on the Brink of History

Toyota arrives in Chile with a 174-point lead over Hyundai in the manufacturers' standings. With a maximum of 60 points available per manufacturer at a WRC round, Toyota simply needs to stay more than 120 points ahead by Sunday to secure their 10th manufacturers' title, matching Lancia's record.

Hyundai would need a miracle: they must outscore Toyota by 55 points or more in Chile to deny Toyota's coronation. Considering Toyota has won 10 of 11 events this year and has placed at least two cars on every podium except Paraguay, that scenario is nearly impossible.

Junior WRC: Carlberg vs Turkkan and the Challengers

Junior WRC is the only championship guaranteed to be decided in Chile, as it is the fifth and final round of the season. Calle Carlberg leads the standings by three points over Ali Turkkan.

Five drivers remain in contention, especially since the finale offers double points. With an additional point per stage win, a total of 66 points can be claimed in Chile. Craig Rahill is the only driver mathematically eliminated, while Gil Membrado (24 points down), Leevi Lassala (34 points down), and Karem Kazaz (63 points down) can still theoretically catch up.

WRC2 Challengers: Virves at the Door

Robert Virves cannot clinch the WRC2 title in Chile because if he wins and scores 125 points, Teemu Suninen could still reach 126. However, a victory in Chile would earn Virves the WRC2 Challengers title.

Open to drivers who have never been WRC2 champion or scored WRC manufacturer points, Virves leads Roope Korhonen by six points, with Leo Rossel 19 points adrift. A win for Toksport Skoda's Virves would give him 125 points, while Korhonen's season maximum stands at 119 if he wins in Sardinia. Rossel can theoretically reach 125 points, but if Virves wins in Chile, he will have five Challenger victories and an unbeatable tally if countback is applied.

Rally Chile will witness how pressure and strategy play out on the challenging gravel stages. For Toyota, it's a formality; for the challengers, it's the last chance to etch their names in history.
