Williams has been summoned to the stewards after the British GP at Silverstone over an alleged infringement during the safety car procedure.

The case involves Carlos Sainz, who finished 12th and was the only Williams driver to reach the chequered flag. Team-mate Alex Albon was forced to retire late in the race while the field was circulating behind the safety car.

On the penultimate lap, lapped cars were instructed that they could move ahead of the leading contenders and the safety car to rejoin at the back of the field. That procedure is a key part of reordering the pack before a potential restart or a race finish under neutralised conditions.

However, Williams drew the stewards’ attention after Sainz appeared to unlap himself before being officially instructed to do so. The team has therefore been called to explain the sequence of actions during the late safety car period.

In the official summons, the FIA noted an alleged breach of Article B5.13.4c of the FIA F1 Regulations, relating to unlapping behind the safety car when not entitled to do so.

The case adds another post-race procedural review at Silverstone after the closing stages of the British GP were already marked by safety car confusion. For Williams, the stewards’ decision will determine whether Sainz’s result remains unchanged or whether further consequences follow the incident.
