The decision for Nicolo Bulega to make the leap to MotoGP in 2027 comes at the most opportune time. VR46 Ducati team manager Pablo Nieto believes the transition will be "as easy as possible" thanks to the major regulation changes that will level the playing field.

Bulega will follow in the footsteps of his 2025 WorldSBK rival, Toprak Razgatlioglu, who made the move this year. However, Razgatlioglu's rookie season has been far from smooth, as he adapted to a new championship, new team, Michelin tyres, and a Yamaha bike still in its early development stages. In contrast, Bulega is expected to face far fewer hurdles.

The Italian will remain on Pirelli tyres, which will be new to almost the entire MotoGP grid. The new Desmosedici he will ride is equally new to everyone, including other manufacturers. In other words, Ducati will have no head start in development compared to its rivals.

According to Nieto, Bulega's WorldSBK experience has prepared him well for the MotoGP challenge. "We complete next year's line-up with Nicolo Bulega, a rider who always proved to be very talented and determined," Nieto said. "His journey has not been always easy, but he is dominating the WorldSBK and proved he deserves a place in MotoGP."

"Next year the regulation will change, and we will all start from zero. His experience with WorldSBK tyres and the test with the new Ducati Desmosedici GP as a test rider will help him adapt well and make this journey as easy as possible. We trust him and know he will be able to fight for the most important goals," he added.

VR46 Ducati team director Alessio Salucci also welcomed Bulega warmly. "We are very happy to welcome Nicolo to the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team. We have known him for many years, he started his career with us and achieved great results together. Now it's time to do great things together," he said. Salucci is confident Bulega is ready to embark on this new chapter with maturity and awareness.
