Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Formula 1 has officially confirmed the return of the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park to the calendar from the 2027 season, following a six-year absence.
The agreement covers a five-year period through to 2031, marking the comeback of one of the most technically demanding and highly regarded circuits in modern Formula 1. Istanbul Park previously hosted races from 2005 to 2011, before returning temporarily in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19-affected seasons.
The circuit is widely recognised for its flowing layout, particularly the multi-apex Turn 8, which has become one of the defining corners in Formula 1. Its return has long been anticipated following sustained discussions between Formula 1, circuit officials, and Turkish authorities.

“We are delighted to be returning to the incredible and vibrant city of Istanbul from 2027,” said Stefano Domenicali, CEO and President of Formula 1.
“It is one of the most exciting and challenging circuits, and it has produced many memorable moments in the history of the sport. We are excited to begin the next chapter of our partnership.”
Domenicali also highlighted Istanbul’s broader significance as a global destination, bridging Europe and Asia while offering a strong platform for sport, business, and entertainment.
President of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, described the return as a reflection of Formula 1’s continued global growth and expansion into key markets.
“Istanbul Park holds a special place in Formula 1 history, and its return underlines our shared commitment to expanding the championship in dynamic markets,” he stated.
He also acknowledged the role of Turkish authorities, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the national motorsport federation in securing the agreement.
President Erdogan emphasized that the return of Formula 1 reflects international confidence in Türkiye’s organisational capabilities and infrastructure.
“Istanbul Park will once again host five seasons of high-quality racing between 2027 and 2031,” he said.
“We will deliver a flawless organisation, as we have done in the past, and continue to strengthen Türkiye’s role in global motorsport.”
With a long-term contract now secured, Istanbul Park is set to play a significant role in Formula 1’s future calendar. The return of the Turkish Grand Prix also reinforces the championship’s global strategy, with the 2027 season marking the beginning of a new phase for the event and its integration into the evolving Formula 1 landscape.
