Ian Baker, the mastermind behind the World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC), is currently recovering after a heart-related medical episode. The news comes just weeks before the event is set to take over Sydney Motorsport Park on September 4-5.
WTAC confirmed in an official statement that Ian Baker is receiving appropriate medical care. "Ian and his family appreciate the messages of support and ask that their privacy be respected while he focuses on his recovery," the statement read.
Despite the CEO's health setback, preparations for the 2026 WTAC remain on schedule. The event, known for its wild machines, will proceed as planned at Sydney Motorsport Park. "The entire WTAC team wishes Ian a steady recovery and looks forward to welcoming him back when he's ready," the statement added.

Known as 'Mr World Time Attack', Baker is the driving force behind the annual event that brings some of the world's craziest cars from Japan and the United States to Australia. Without him, the event wouldn't have become the global phenomenon it is today.
WTAC 2026 will be a two-day festival blending time attack and drifting action. In the top Emtron Pro class, Bathurst 1000 winner Todd Hazelwood, along with former full-time Supercar drivers Tim Slade and Alex Rullo, are set to battle for victory.
The presence of these top drivers guarantees fierce competition on track. Fans can still look forward to spectacular action, even as Baker takes a temporary step back from the paddock.
