Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Sergio Perez has criticised his former team Red Bull ahead of the 2026 Australian Grand Prix, stating that his technical feedback is now more appreciated at his new team, Cadillac.
The Mexican driver returns to Formula 1 this season after spending 2025 away from the grid following his departure from Red Bull at the end of the 2024 campaign. After a challenging final year with the team, both parties agreed to part ways.
The difficulties faced by his successors at Red Bull, including Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, who also struggled alongside Max Verstappen, have since highlighted the scale of the challenge Perez faced during his time with the Milton Keynes-based squad.

Perez admitted that the final months of his Red Bull tenure were particularly difficult and that stepping away from Formula 1 for a year was necessary.
“Obviously, the last six months of my journey with Red Bull were tough in all areas, and I really felt like I needed a break,” Perez told select media, including RacingNews365.
He also suggested that certain issues within the team were not visible from outside the organisation at the time.
“I could see things that, from the outside, were not visible. They became more visible after I left, of course.”
Despite the difficult ending, Perez emphasised that he still values the positive moments he experienced with Red Bull.
“For me, I also had a great time with Red Bull.”
Now returning to the grid with Cadillac, Perez says the new project has reignited his motivation for Formula 1.
“I’m really enjoying my time with Cadillac, and I’m looking forward to this journey together.”
“I think there are a lot of promises around this project. It’s a long-term challenge, but I believe it can become something very successful.”
Perez added that being part of a completely new team has provided him with renewed enthusiasm.
“Being part of something new gives me that motivation.”
For its debut Formula 1 season, Cadillac has assembled an experienced driver line-up, pairing Perez with Valtteri Bottas, who is the same age as the Mexican driver.
The team hopes their combined experience will accelerate development through detailed technical feedback.
Perez believes his input is already playing a greater role in the team’s development direction compared to his previous environment.
“Yes, definitely, I think so,” Perez said when asked whether his feedback is now more appreciated.
“I feel that the way the car is being developed, and the way we’re pushing forward in the same direction, obviously helps.”
He concluded by emphasising that the collaborative atmosphere at Cadillac has made his technical contribution more valued.
“I definitely feel that my feedback is much more appreciated.”
With two highly experienced drivers leading its development programme, Cadillac aims to build a strong technical foundation as it begins its journey in Formula 1.
