A Canadian research study has recently revealed the surprising results of which Formula 1 drivers use the most swear words over their team radio communications. According to Motorsport Week, the extensive analysis utilized official radio archives to track how often the stars lose their composure behind the steering wheel.
Conducted by Canadian Sports Betting, the research analyzed communication data spanning from 2018 to 2026, though excluding 2022. Their methodology recognized masked and bleeped-out words using a curated list of 40 terms across eight languages, categorized into 'mild', 'insult', or 'strong' levels of vulgarity.
While many fans naturally expected Max Verstappen to top the charts due to his notoriously outspoken nature on team radio, the four-time World Champion did not quite take the ultimate crown. Across thousands of analyzed radio messages, the Dutch driver averaged 3.17 swear words per 1000 words.
Instead, the crown for the highest frequency of swearing went to Pierre Gasly in a surprising twist. Across 1902 messages, the French driver swore 163 times, putting him at a higher rate of 3.66 with vulgar language appearing in 5.84 percent of his overall radio transmissions.
Rounding out the upper echelon, Charles Leclerc claimed third place with a rate of 2.35, followed closely by Sergio Perez. At the other end of the grid, Esteban Ocon recorded the fewest swear words with a remarkably calm rate of just 0.63 per 1000 words.
