This weekend's WorldSBK round at the Jerez circuit will bear witness to an emotional milestone as it marks the conclusion of a remarkable era in production-based motorcycle racing. Pirelli, the Italian tyre manufacturer that has served as the sole official supplier since 2004, is preparing for its final event before the championship transitions to a new tyre partner starting in the 2027 season.
When the single-tyre regulation was first introduced over two decades ago, it initially sparked heavy resistance within the paddock as numerous teams worried about losing lucrative private supplier agreements. Over the years, however, those concerns completely evaporated as the visionary concept eliminated costly tyre wars and established a blueprint that many major two-wheeled and four-wheeled motorsport championships later decided to follow.
For more than 20 years, riders and fans have known the world championship exclusively with this Italian rubber, forging a partnership that transformed the brand from a mere vendor into an active, strategic collaborator in the championship's ongoing growth. Racing Director Giorgio Barbier reflected on the long journey with a heavy heart, having been an integral pillar of the paddock since the very inception of the program back in 2004.

"The Pirelli round in Spain forms the conclusion of a long journey that began in 2004, when Pirelli entered the Superbike World Championship as the official tyre supplier," said Giorgio Barbier, looking back at the milestone moment. He emphasized that despite the impending farewell, the engineering crew remains fully dedicated to finishing the current campaign with maximum determination and success.
Heading into the final weekend, the iconic brand has elected to stick with the softest rear tyre options that have proven their reliability and performance throughout the majority of the season. Backed by extensive telemetry data gathered from countless races and private test sessions at the Andalusian venue over the years, the extra-soft SCQ and supersoft SCX compounds remain the most effective choices for the title contenders.
