Marc Marquez Targets Maiden Mandalika Victory in MotoGP 2026

Ahead of the race weekend at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Marc Marquez faces a stark historical hurdle. Over the four years of the Indonesian Grand Prix held at Mandalika, the Spanish rider has remarkably never finished a Sunday main race at the venue. A series of misfortunes and heavy crashes have continuously thwarted his ambitions, most notably last season when a major accident involving Marco Bezzecchi resulted in a severe injury that effectively brought an early end to his championship campaign.

However, the nine-time world champion insists that the dynamic heading into this weekend is entirely different. Arriving on the back of a strong run of form that includes four double victories across the last six rounds, the veteran rider sits just two points behind championship leader Jorge Martin in the standings. Speaking during the official pre-event press conference in Mandalika, he emphasized that his primary objective is to start the weekend strongly and maximize the team's garage work from the opening session.

Addressing the competitive landscape of the Indonesian track, Marc Marquez acknowledged that the circuit layout naturally suits the characteristics of the Aprilia machines. Consequently, his strategic plan involves applying immediate pressure and staying closely attached to his primary rivals throughout the weekend. He reiterated his intention to maintain an aggressive approach at every circuit as he chases vital points in the title fight.

Aside from sporting preparations, the factory Ducati rider also addressed MotoGP's recent announcement regarding the revised weekend format scheduled to take effect in the 2027 season. The upcoming changes introduce a dedicated sprint qualifying session on Fridays alongside reduced overall track time for riders. Commenting on the adjustments, he noted that the schedule will demand even higher intensity from an already demanding calendar.

Concluding his remarks, the older brother of Alex Marquez expressed a candid view on the rulemaking process within the championship. While acknowledging that riders are the primary stars of the sport, he pointed out the limited influence competitors have over major structural decisions, leaving final authority entirely in the hands of the teams and championship organizers.
